Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Initial Teacher Education - MFL (Modern Foreign Languages)

About The Role

The Department of Education and Childhood Studies is appointing a 0.5 Lecturer or Senior Lecturer to teach the MFL pathway on our highly successful secondary PGCE.

Since its inception in 2019 the PGCE programmes at Swansea University have gone from strength to strength. In the last year the secondary programme has been through an Estyn inspection and been reaccredited by the Education Workforce Council. Both have complimented us on the strength of our programmes in general, with particular recognition for our work on wellbeing and on linking research and practice. We are now appointing a 0.5 Lecturer or senior Lecturer to teach the MFL pathway.

The appointee will become a member of the Department of Education and Childhood Studies. This is a vibrant and collegial department with a commitment to undertaking and disseminating meaningful research. We work in partnership with many other universities in Wales and beyond, and with other parts of the education sector. We pride ourselves on the quality of our research environment for all staff. Something with was complimented by the ESTYN inspection team.

The successful applicant will lead the MFL pathway of the secondary PGCE. They will also make contributions to other programmes in the department including the MA Education (Wales) and/or other undergraduate or Masters programmes.

Whilst we welcome applications from anyone with the experience and knowledge necessary to take on these roles, we would especially welcome applicants who are table to teach and assess in the medium of Welsh.

Welsh Language Skills

The Welsh language level required for this role is Level 1 - A little. The role holder will be able to pronounce Welsh words, answer the phone in Welsh (good morning/afternoon) and use very basic everyday words and phrases (thank you, please etc.). Level 1 can be reached by completing a 1 hour course.
