About the Post
This is an exciting opportunity to join our team and contribute to the improvement of oral health education and training of the future multi-skilled dental workforce. You will work collaboratively with a range of teams across the campus in a role that will be stimulating, varied, and rewarding.
The main role is to support students with practical/clinical learning skills in our brand-new dental hygiene and therapy facilities for our BSc (Hons) Dental Hygiene and Therapy programme.
You will have the responsibility of providing technical support for the laboratory equipment, supporting lecturers and students with simulation/clinical skills teaching in the dental hygiene and therapy teaching/simulation/clinical facility. Our facilities are composed of 24 dental phantom-heads and other relevant equipment. You will be preparing the suite and equipment for student and third-party training sessions, supporting teaching staff and students using the equipment and developing their practical/clinical skills. You will also place orders and ensure that consumables remain well stocked, and that equipment is serviced and operational when needed.
About the Team
The role will include collaborative cross university working in other areas to support student learning and the rest of the technical team; this may include the life science laboratories, health and wellbeing suite and exercise science areas. There will be the opportunity to work with the teaching team and learning designers to create learning materials, protocols and digital assets as the role develops. The successful candidate will be based mainly in the new dental education suite of modern James Hehir Building on Ipswich’s historic waterfront and marina.
About You
We are looking for a forward thinking, conscientious and skilful person to join our new dental education provision. The successful applicant will need to be student experience focussed, organised, self-motivated, flexible and an excellent communicator. We are looking for a person with experience of dental hygiene and therapy practices procedures, as well as dental hygiene and therapy equipment maintenance (e.g., hand-pieces, hand-instruments, replacement of water filters, diagnosis of Adec Pneumatic air systems, autoclaves, phantom heads), and experience with sterilization procedures. Please note that this role will also include clinical/patient interactions therefore GDC registration is essential.
For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Cátia Marques, the course leader at c.marques@uos.ac.uk.
