About the Role
The post of Research Nurse has been created to facilitate the conduct and management of research studies conducted within the Metabolic Health Research Group, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, involving participants diagnosed with steatotic liver disease, diabetes and/or obesity. The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of the clinical elements of the group’s portfolio including patient identification, consent, safety, data entry, governance, sample collection, use of a dedicated bioresource and research database. The successful candidate will contribute to the overall research endeavour of the Group by taking responsibility for the recruitment and management of designated metabolism projects, as well as other areas of current related projects, including clinical trials, as required. The post holder will be required to work as part of the research team, being mutually supportive and covering duties as necessary during colleagues’ absences and at times of additional pressure, as directed.

About the Department
This post is a new role within the Metabolic Health Research Group incorporating liver, diabetes and obesity research groups, and is funded by Barts Health NHS Trust, the Clinical Research Network, academic grants held by the principal investigators and commercial studies. The East London population served by Barts Health is among the poorest and most ethnically diverse in the UK. People from different social or ethnic groups suffer the complications of diabetes, liver disease and obesity differently. These metabolic conditions are major health challenges globally and are particularly prevalent in the East End of London and are therefore the focus of our research.
