We are seeking a skilled and motivated Bioinformatician to join the Gilbertson Laboratory based in Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute. The successful candidate will be part of a pancreatic cancer research project in collaboration with the laboratory of Dr Giulia Biffi. The role involves integrating multi-omics data (RNA-seq, single-cell, and spatial transcriptomics) to identify biomarkers, therapeutic targets, and key drivers of pancreatic cancer. The role holder will analyse transcriptomic data using standard pipelines as well as in-house methods, including RECODR: Graph Network NLP approach, to process complex datasets and uncover novel insights (reference: doi: https://doi.org/10.1101/2024.04.09.585681).   

The successful candidate should have experience in bioinformatics, machine learning, and network-based analysis, with proficiency in Python/R, Nextflow, and high-performance computing. In addition to the project work, the role holder will provide support to researchers in the group, assist in various aspects of data analysis and devise novel solutions to experimental and analytical problems presented by researcher pushing boundaries of current practice. There will also be opportunity within the role to train other group members in the use of bioinformatics software.

Successful applicants will have a Master's in bioinformatics or a relevant field and strong bioinformatics skills, including previous hands-on experience in analysing single-cell RNA-sequencing datasets in an academic setting. Candidates are expected to be highly collaborative, good communicators, creative thinkers, able to find solutions to problems, to work effectively as part of a team and to contribute intellectually to other projects developed in the laboratory.

Fixed term: The funds for this position will be available for up to two years from the commencement of the post.
