Project title:  Investigating the impact of organic fermented dairy intake on mental, cognitive, cardiovascular and cardiometabolic health

Supervisors:  Dr Piril Hepsomali and Dr Daniel Lamport

Project Overview:

We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic graduate with a background in Psychology, Neuroscience, Cognitive Neuroscience or related disciplines.

Recent research shows that the bacteria in our gut and the substances they produce can help control inflammation in the body, which is linked to cardiovascular and cardiometabolic health, brain function, and mood. Fermented dairy products like probiotic-rich yogurt may support gut health and reduce inflammation, making them a promising option for improving overall well-being. However, many regular fermented dairy products contain artificial additives that could reduce their probiotic benefits and nutritional value. In contrast, organic fermented dairy products are free from synthetic additives and have higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids, which are important for health outcomes.

This PhD project will explore how consuming organic probiotic-rich fermented dairy products impact mental, cognitive, cardiovascular and cardiometabolic health. This project will enhance our understanding of the gut-brain axis and the relationship between diet and health while addressing key gaps in nutrition research.
