About us
The Department of War Studies is part of the School of Security Studies within the Faculty of Social Science and Public Policy at King’s College London. War Studies has a large and diverse community of International Relations specialists, with expertise in areas including security, technology, violence, gender, migration and borders. We are a theoretically and methodologically diverse Department, including key strengths in critical approaches and methodologies.
About the role
The Department of War Studies seeks to appoint a Lecturer in International Relations to contribute to the Department's world-class teaching and research in this area. The successful candidate will have a track record of high-quality publications in IR. Applicants should also be able to provide innovative teaching within the broad IR field to undergraduate and taught postgraduate students from a wide range of backgrounds. This will involve teaching on both compulsory and optional IR modules at BA and MA levels. The successful candidate will also play a role in the institutional and intellectual development of the Department and undertake Departmental, School, Faculty and University administrative duties as required.
We welcome applications from candidates whose research contributes to or expands our IR coverage from a range of perspectives. We are particularly interested in applications from candidates whose research develops and applies IR theory, and whose research addresses issues related to global governance or international organisations.
Beyond teaching and administrative duties, the successful candidate, upon completion of their probation, will be expected to supervise PhD students. They will also be expected to undertake high-quality research in their subject area, including publishing in recognised journals and with leading presses. We offer research mentorship in support of these activities. The role-holder will further maintain research activities and connections through a portfolio of individual and/or joint research projects and will work to secure external research funding.
The Faculty of Social Science and Public Policy and its constituent Schools and Departments together support a culture of diversity and inclusion for our staff and students. We encourage further growth in diversity and we welcome applicants of all abilities, whom we are able to support with our flexible and varied working practices. The Department particularly welcomes applications from women and/or candidates from a BME background.
This is a full time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.
