The role

You will have responsibility for leading the design, development, and delivery of the Department for English and Creative Writing’s new online ‘Writing for Better Futures’ short courses.

The role of Senior Lecturer (Education and Scholarship) will involve leading the design, development and production of teaching and learning material of our new Online ‘Writing for Better Futures’ Creative Writing short courses. You will work with colleagues to ensure high quality education for our online students through developing an engaging online curriculum supported by production of high-quality learning materials and authentic assessment methods. This is an exciting opportunity to undertake responsibility for shaping our new Online Creative Writing courses. You will bring to it your core and speciality knowledge in Creative Writing combined with your experience of online education delivery to ensure this programme is successfully launched from a strong foundation and towards growth in our online portfolio. 

You will ensure that content, methods of delivery and learning materials meet the defined learning objectives for individual teaching sessions.

About you

You will:

  • Possess a depth or breadth of specialist knowledge demonstrated by a PhD in Creative Writing, or equivalent, of the core knowledge relating to Creative Writing in order to teach and support learning on Creative Writing modules
  • Have a consistent track record of excellent teaching across a variety of modules and levels within your discipline as might be expected of a very experienced HE Teacher, with demonstrable evidence of developing and delivering online education
  • Contribute to the design, development and delivery of a range of modules or programmes at various levels; applying innovative and appropriate teaching techniques; identifying sources of funding and securing funds for own scholarly activities and providing academic leadership to those working within programme areas.
  • Be expected to work towards Principal Fellow of the HEA and to attend formal CPD relating to this
  • Be a published author with a track record of creative works which may include prose, poetry, script or screen writing, non-fiction, and other genres
  • Have strong project management skills with experiencing of delivering complex projects to a high-level within a fixed timeframe
  • Be well-connected with existing contacts (authors, publishers, agents) in the industry.
