The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is one of the foremost social science universities in the world. LSE is a vibrant and cosmopolitan community in the heart of London, with a diverse staff and student body.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Research Finance Manager. 

Reporting to Research Accountant and Head of Research Awards, you will be responsible for leading a team to provide a comprehensive and high-quality finance and post award service, supporting our world-renowned Research Centres to deliver cutting edge research and innovation projects. You will also be responsible for a range of tasks to assist in planning, monitoring, reporting and inform decision making. 

This a new role and comes at an exciting time, as the School’s Research for the World strategy is emerging.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A Degree or equivalent with a relevant professional financial/accounting qualification (e.g. ICAS, ICAEW, CIMA or CIPFA) or working towards qualification.
  • At least 5 years of experience in financial management, preferably in a research or academic environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, proven ability to explain complex finance concepts and the implication of financial decisions to non-specialists, excellent analytical skills and IT skills (in particular, design and use of complex spreadsheets).
  • Superb interpersonal, people management and time management skills, with proven ability to influence others to achieve aims and evidence of successfully developing own team.
  • Experience of leading and managing significant projects and budgets.
