About the role
We are looking for a talented and motivated individual to become an IT manager in the new NDS Bioresource (NDSB). This brand-new role offers an exciting opportunity to implement and develop new software and technologies which will make a real difference to the functionality and efficiency of clinical research biobanks and to the delivery of research results.
The Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences (NDS) is home to a number of Tissue Research Banks (RTBs or ‘biobanks’), biorepositories of human tissue samples intended for use in research. The success of these biobanks and the increasing complexity and collaborative nature of the work means that the time is right to bring these expert teams together under one service, which we will call the NDS Bioresource (NDSB), and which will provide a single pathway to applicants for access to fresh or archived samples.
You will be working closely with the departmental biobank teams and will be responsible for co-ordinating the implementation and maintenance of the biobank laboratory information management system (LIMS) and providing data management support to NDSB. This will involve development and implementation of inventory systems, standard operating procedures, whilst ensuring compliance with the Human Tissue Act, Data Protection and GDPR and Caldicott Principles.
You will be based at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust sites; specifically, the John Radcliffe Hospital, with regular travel to the Churchill Hospital. There is also the option to agree a pattern of regular remote working with your line manager.
About you
The successful candidate will have knowledge, intellectual capacity, reasoning and analytical skills equivalent to those of a graduate, with demonstrable experience of implementing, developing, maintaining and testing SQL and relational database technologies. Experience with web-based technologies: HTML, JavaScript, XML and Java/.NET/Python is essential, as well as a good understanding of networking techniques and their applications to ensure security and integrity of data and systems. In addition, you will have excellent communication skills and a proven success in organising a busy and varied workload.
This full-time post is available immediately and is fixed-term for 36 months in the first instance. We would be willing to consider applications for part-time hours (0.8FTE).
