The opportunity
We are seeking an outstanding teacher, practitioner, and/or researcher to join the BA(Hons) Animation course at UAL’s London College of Communication (LCC) on a fixed-term contract.
As a Lecturer in Animation, you will be responsible for teaching, curriculum development, and ongoing scholarship within the Experimental and Character pathways. You will work collaboratively within a course team, applying specialist expertise to develop pedagogy and the curriculum in innovative and critical directions. The role will focus on innovative and experimental approaches to stop-motion animation across multiple pathways.
About you
The ideal candidate will have experience in higher education (or a comparable context), a strong understanding of stop-motion animation, and proficiency in related analogue, digital, and expanded animation forms. You will also be able to contribute to the programme’s research and/or knowledge exchange.
You should be comfortable working with diverse student cohorts and committed to integrating creative, exploratory practices with technical knowledge in your teaching.
An MA in Animation or a related subject is preferred, but not essential if comparable experience can be evidenced. You should have a proven record of professional practice or research in stop-motion animation, with expertise in cinematography, lighting, camera operation, set building, model making, rig construction, design, storyboarding, and contemporary experimental and narrative animation forms. Proficiency in stop-motion software such as Dragonframe, After Effects, and Photoshop is essential, and familiarity with other relevant software and animation techniques would be advantageous.
We are looking for a specialist practitioner and/or researcher eager to support student development across all year groups in both the Experimental and Character pathways. You should be proactive, enthusiastic, and engaged in the contemporary context of animation within academic and/or professional settings, as well as active in relevant networks and communities of practice.
