About the role…

In this role you will provide data analysis as part of the Bioinformatics & Biostatistics platform to support to the UCLH-Francis Crick Institute clinical Legacy study, working within UKRI supported PROVAC consortium in partnership with the project leads at the University of Cambridge. PROVAC aims to enhance the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine strain selection process by developing models to predict which variants may emerge in the future and measure immune responses against this potential future evolution. This will enable researchers to choose the variant of the virus to utilise in the next vaccine and provide the best possible future population protection.

You will support analysis of metadata and new experimental data within the PROVAC centralised data repository. Utilising a number of programming, statistical and data analysis techniques, you will analyse data from participants in the UCLH-Crick Legacy study.

What you will be doing…

As a Senior Biostatistician in the Bioinformatics & Biostatistics platform at the Crick, you will:

  • Work collaboratively across the PROVAC collaboration to co-design experiments, formulate analysis plans and interpret results.
  • Perform standard and advanced analyses of high-dimensional, data-intensive and complex research questions across the biomedical research spectrum using bioinformatics, biostatistics, machine learning and AI approaches.
  • Empower biologists to understand their datasets, using our broad training portfolio to enable data curiosity and develop analytical skills.
  • Design innovative approaches for recurrent and novel projects, and deploy corresponding tools internally, across PROVAC and beyond.

About you…

You will bring…

  • A degree in a relevant subject with an extensive analytical component. E.g., mathematics, biostatistics, epidemiology, bioinformatics, or related fields.
  • Advanced proficiency in R or Python programming.
  • Experience applying statistical analysis techniques to solve complex data analysis problems in a collaborative biological research environment.
  • Experience in data curation, pre-processing, and management especially with large biomedical datasets.
  • Experience in running bioinformatics analysis software on an HPC system.
  • Basic knowledge of molecular biology.
