About the role… 

We are looking for a reliable individual who is a team player and works well in a fast-paced working environment to join the Bonnet lab.

The main responsibility of your role will be collecting samples from the labour ward in the maternity unit at University College Hospital, ensuring compliance, and safely transporting the samples to the Francis Crick Institute for processing and storage.

As a Laboratory Research Officer, you will be the central key figure coordinating between multiple different groups, to facilitate the collection, processing and storage of samples and accompanying clinical data and ethics. Based at the Francis Crick Institute and UCL Cancer Institute, samples will be mostly acquired from across UCLH and the diagnostic laboratories. You will also be responsible for maintaining up to date clinical information and accurate sample records and ensuring collection complies with all necessary regulations and ethics.

This is a flexible opportunity for someone who has just finished university or is a nurse, no previous experience is necessary and full training will be provided.

What you will be doing… 

As a Laboratory Research Officer at the Crick, you will be: 

  • Processing and storage for long term biobanking
  • Maintain and manage accurate record keeping of samples within a secure database
  • Comply with data protection regulations
  • Collect, check, upload and file biobank consent forms (including e-consents)
  • Ensure biological samples are stored in accordance with GCP and local laboratory standards, and appropriately distribute samples across multiple projects.

About you…  

You will bring… 

  • A good BSc first degree, or higher, in a bioScience
  • Enthusiasm and motivation to contribute to scientific research  
  • Proven laboratory bench skills
  • Previous experience of successful day to day management with an ability to organise and prioritise own work in a fast-paced environment
