LSE is committed to building a diverse, equitable and truly inclusive university
Salary from £73,199 to £93,551 pa inclusive of London allowance
LSE is a leading social science institution with huge global impact. Our researchers are world-leading thinkers on critical issues.
LSE Research and Innovation helps to develop and sustain an environment that makes LSE the best place in the world to do excellent and impactful social science research. We provide high quality support to LSE’s academics, students and alumni across all stages of the research lifecycle. We are a sector leader in the development of novel and effective support for the commercialisation of social science research.
The Associate Director of Innovation & Impact leads and manages the Innovation & Impact (I&I) team, which supports the identification, generation, and optimisation of research impacts of any type, via any appropriate pathway including commercialisation. They work closely with senior leaders to optimise LSE’s impact and innovation culture, including by creating, promoting and supporting opportunities for new and enhanced impact and innovation activity. They are responsible for monitoring, evaluating and reporting against I&I’s strategic objectives, both for senior LSE stakeholders and to meet external reporting requirements.
Candidates should demonstrate in-depth knowledge of research impact policy, funding and approaches, including via translational activity and research commercialisation. They should have extensive experience of industry and/or university knowledge exchange, impact and commercialisation and a sound understanding of legal and technical aspects of the full research commercialisation process. Experience of innovation underpinned by social science, arts and humanities research is highly desirable, as is experience of supporting not-for-profit (as well as more purely commercial) innovation activity.
This is an exciting opportunity to leverage existing experience to build on LSE’s strong track record of research impact and further accelerate the development of our social science innovation. The role is offered as a 12-month, fixed-term contract or secondment (from within or beyond LSE) to cover maternity leave. Although advertised as a full-time role, we are open to discussion about part-time and flexible working arrangements, though note a requirement for the role to be filled on at least 0.8FTE basis.
We offer an occupational pension scheme, generous annual leave and excellent training and development opportunities.
LSE is a learning organisation and we aim to support colleagues to reach their full potential and progress their career.
LSE is a campus-based university and staff are expected to attend the London campus in fulfilling their role. Most staff balance working from campus or remotely and for this role we can offer flexible working patterns, and a blend of on-campus and remote working. We therefore encourage applications from applicants who can regularly travel to the London campus and operate in a hybrid working environment.
