About us
The Department of Neuromuscular Diseases is a hub for clinical and research excellence across the spectrum of spinal cord and neuromuscular diseases.
Based in the department is the Cortical Processing Laboratory, the aim of which is to understand how populations of neurons combine sensory and internal signals to guide action.
About the role
The Cortical Processing Lab’s neuroscience research team has developed a technique which uses 2-photon microscopy to simultaneously record the activity of tens of thousands of neurons in the living brain and identify their fine subtypes by applying in situ transcriptomics to the recorded neurons.
We are now recruiting a Research Assistant with a background in molecular biology or neuroscience to apply these techniques in the mouse brain. This involves lab work using techniques such as molecular biology and microscopy, and then processing the large datasets these techniques generate.
The role is available immediately and funded by the Wellcome for one year in the first instance.
For a full job description and to apply for this role please visit UCL’s online recruitment portal (https://www.ucl.ac.uk/work-at-ucl/search-ucl-jobs) and search using vacancy reference B02-08384.
About you
You’ll have an Honours degree in Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, Physiology, Medicine Physics, Engineering, or a related field, with laboratory experience in techniques related to molecular biology and the ability to quickly learn new procedures and techniques. Experience working with RNA and good interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills are also required for this role.
