Purpose

Working closely with the Provost and the Principal, the Programme Director will provide effective leadership for all HE programmes at the College. The Programme Director will be responsible for the performance of the course team ensuring they engage fully in a range of core activities including teaching, development of learning materials, research and scholarly activity, course administration, curriculum development and recruitment and retention strategies. The Programme Director will also participate in the development, planning and organisation of the faculty as a whole, and will serve on such boards, committees and groups.

Responsibilities 

  • Ensure that all aspects of the programme comply with the Academic Regulations for Taught Programmes
  • Lead Periodic Programme Review in line with Institutional procedure
  • To monitor compliance with, and completion of key quality and administrative processes, preparing documentation and writing reports as appropriate
  • Oversee student progress, achievement and retention in accordance with baselines performance indicators as set out in the operational performance measures for partnerships
  • Support quality assurance processes and advise on collaborative educational partnerships including institutional reviews and programme validation
  • Work with the academic team to strengthen CPD and support, manage and promote professional development for academic and professional staff
  • To agree objectives and targets with the Dean and Principal in accordance with college priorities and participate in the staff appraisal process.
  • To participate in the recruitment and selection of new posts linked to the programme.
  • To participate in professional/academic associations and develop and participate in external networks. The post holder may be required to carry out other duties in keeping with the nature of the post.

Key Working Relationships The post holder will have key working relationships with:

  1. Principal
  2. Dean /Provost
  3. Academic Managers
  4. Human Resources Manager
  5. Academic team
  6. Registry and professional services

Person Specification

Qualifications Experience and Skills (Essential)

  • UK Master’s degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline
  • A strong academic background including teaching and research or scholarship
  • Able to demonstrate significant and proven competence in higher education administration with the ability to analyse and interpret data sets with effective reporting skills.
  • Substantial proven leadership experience in Higher Education in a similar role
  • Experience of successful partnership working with a range of internal and external stakeholders including students
  • Understanding of current and emerging agendas in Higher Education, especially relating to curriculum and learning design, learning enhancement familiarity with relevant national and international reference points
  • Ability to command the confidence of the academic and broader community
  • Strong organisational and interpersonal skills
  • Creative approach to problem-solving
  • High levels of personal drive, the ability to quickly establish priorities and to work collaboratively to achieve objectives

Desirable

  • Extensive professional and strategic management and leadership experience, demonstrating CPD
  • PGCHE or Fellowship of HEA or equivalent qualification (highly desirable
