Research Associate (Fixed Term)

The Department of Land Economy is looking to appoint a Research Associate to join the Cambridge Centre for Housing and Planning Research (CCHPR).  

CCHPR was established in 1990 with the aim of undertaking policy-oriented research and has an international reputation as a leading academic research institution in the fields of housing and planning. We are recruiting for a researcher to join the Centre where we work across different topics, including: 

• Housing supply and affordability, planning obligations, house building
• Housing for an ageing population
• Housing tenure, homelessness, and alternative housing models
• Digital innovation and inclusion, smart cities, offsite construction

We are seeking candidates with a PhD (or close to completion) in a relevant field or with equivalent relevant experience to contribute to our programme of research looking at different aspects of housing and planning. You will work on research grant applications, desk-based reviews, data collection and analysis, writing outputs, and dissemination of research findings to different audiences, including through reports and academic publications. You will often be working on more than one research project at a time. In addition to academic research, we also undertake policy and practice focused consultancy research, and are keen to hear from applicants interested in this aspect of our work. An excellent standard of written English is required. Qualitative research experience is essential. 

If you are an enthusiastic qualitative/mixed methods researcher with an excellent understanding of the UK housing market and/or the UK planning system, and are keen to develop your research portfolio, we'd love to hear from you. 

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 18 months in the first instance. 

Start date: From May 2025 

Salary: The successful candidate(s) will be appointed at the start of the relevant salary scale, depending on experience and qualifications. The post is full-time but we welcome applications from individuals who wish to be considered for part-time working. 

Location: This post is usually based in our central Cambridge offices and will require some travel for fieldwork.
