Our diverse and intricate estate includes some of Bristol’s most iconic buildings. As a Building Surveyor, you will play a crucial role in surveying, planning, and delivering projects across our estate, ensuring it remains well-maintained and aligned with our strategic and operational goals.

What will you be doing?
- Deliver comprehensive building surveying services to internal stakeholders.
- Lead a team of surveyors delivering varied construction work and projects across the estate.
- Work within the historic environment delivering project of various size, nature, and complexity. The role requires complete ownership and management of the project lifecycle, from inception to completion.
- Undertake site investigations, desktop studies and where necessary engage with stakeholders and instruct consultants.
- Provide clear, consistent, and well-reasoned advice on building surveying matters to stakeholders and their professional advisors. Support and assist other members of the surveying team with their workload as needed. Conduct due diligence reporting for various commercial buildings and occasionally residential properties.
- Prepare Schedules of Condition and deliver design, specification, and project management services for a range of projects, including refurbishment and renovation.
- Execute client-side CDM (Construction Design and Management) functions.
- Assist in the development of preventative and planned maintenance strategies, and support the co-ordination and collation of asset data, relating to asset condition and compliance.
- Develop and manage programmes of repair which support the outcomes of and underpin the delivery of the maintenance strategy and wider University objectives.
- In particular, you will be required to work alongside colleagues in our External Estates, and Property teams, to establish ownership and the extent of boundary walls.
- Oversee all aspects of building improvement projects, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Using your skill and experience to deliver high-quality and innovative solutions to building defects.
- Manage contractors and consultants onsite and ensure their compliance with university regulations.
You should apply if
- You have a degree, HND or HNC in Building Surveying or a construction related discipline.
- You have extensive knowledge of relevant statutory and regulatory compliance. Including approved codes of practice, industry guidelines and best practice.
- You have demonstrable experience within a data driven environment, including use of Computer Aided Facility Management (CAFM) software. Experience of undertaking asset building condition surveys, creating detailed reports.
- You have excellent communication skills both verbal and written with the ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders at different levels within a complex organisation.
- You have experience of managing multi-disciplinary teams and consultants delivering complex programmes of work.
