The Role

In partnership with the Institute of Conservation, and generously funded by The Anna Plowden Trust, Idlewild Trust, The Julia Rausing Trust, Pilgrim Trust, The Radcliffe Trust and National Manuscripts Conservation Trust, Senate House Library (SHL) will host an internship in conservation and collection care with a particular focus on manuscripts.

The intern will carry out integral conservation procedures on selected items from our Special Collections under the Senior Conservator’s direction. As appropriate, they will also undertake other tasks within the broad Conservation team’s remit and work schedule.

The intern’s professional development will be supported by a generous grant from the UoL Convocation Trust. 

We look for a qualified conservator committed to further their knowledge and experience as a professional who seeks consistent high standards in their work and is motivated by an interest in early collections and their wellbeing in the context of a research library. A good knowledge of preservation issues and remedial techniques related to library materials and a sound level of technical competence are required.

The candidate should possess good interpersonal, organisational and communication skills, ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative and to combine productivity with attention to detail.
