Professor of Applied Social Research as Director of the Safer Young Lives Centre

The Institute of Applied Social Research (IASR) has a reputation for world-leading applied research that reshapes public debate, nationally and internationally, and strengthens the evidence base for policy and practice. Distinctively, it brings the voice of people with lived experience to centre stage. In REF 2021 81% of our Social Work and Social Policy research was rated as world leading or internationally excellent.

SYLRC is renowned for applied research addressing experiences and responses to Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (CSE/A); adolescent safeguarding issues; extra familial harm; and related vulnerabilities. It is also recognised for its expertise in participatory and rights-based approaches.  Other priority areas within the SYLRC portfolio include:

  • Criminal justice responses to vulnerability-related risk.
  • Preventing and improving multi-agency responses to abuse, human displacement and forced migration.

The University wishes to appoint a Professor of Applied Social Research to direct the Safer Young Lives Research Centre (SYLRC).
