The role

The School of Veterinary Medicine and Sciences is looking to recruit an Assistant Professor to further enhance our world class research in the area of Precision Livestock. You will join and contribute to the Ruminant Population Health strategic research area with a focus on interdisciplinary research programme in the field of livestock social epidemiology as well as responsible innovation for livestock technologies.

You will have a demonstrable track record in interdisciplinary collaborative research on livestock social epidemiology and responsible innovation using range of social science methods. The role holder will develop a career-appropriate track record in both research and teaching. You will contribute to the undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the School of Veterinary Medicine and Science, and you will act as a role model that promotes a positive research culture. Training to PGCHE level will be provided, as required, to support the role holder in teaching delivery.

As an Assistant Professor you will have a growing reputation in your field, evidence of collaborative funding in livestock social epidemiology and demonstrable potential to make a significant impact in the field. You will develop a research programme in your field of expertise with a focus on livestock social epidemiology and responsible innovation for precision technologies.

You will undertake research, individually and collaboratively, and publish high-quality, impactful papers regularly. You will seek and secure funding through the development of your own research proposals and be active in research and knowledge exchange projects both internally and externally. You will take an active role in supervising doctoral researchers and will take responsibility for leading new research and other initiatives linked to your area of expertise.

You will have the ability to deliver a high standard of teaching through a variety of methods to support the School’s teaching requirements, with the potential to contribute toward delivery at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The post is offered on a permanent, full-time (36.25 hours per week) contract. Job share opportunities may be considered.

The School of Veterinary Medicine and Science (SVMS) undertakes research on key aspects of disease biology and animal health. Research at the School is integrated into the University structure with established world class research in biomedical sciences. Research undertaken at the school is relevant to both Veterinary Medicine and Science and Comparative and Human Medicine.
