An opportunity has arisen for a Network Manager to join the School of Human Development and Health in the Faculty of Medicine, based at the University of Southampton. The successful candidate will support the Network leadership team to develop and manage the national network for advancing UK research into the gut-immunology-brain axis.
The past two decades have witnessed a global explosion of research into the gut-immunology-brain axis (GIBA), illuminating its importance for human development, health and longevity. Understanding how the gut connects to and influences the nervous system, allows scientists, drug developers and policy makers to develop novel strategies to improve physical, cognitive and mental health across the life-course. Unlocking the potential of GIBA requires an interdisciplinary approach that combines knowledge and technology from diverse research fields that may not have traditionally interacted.
The aim of the GIBA Network+ is to build a vibrant, diverse, interdisciplinary UK-wide research community to advance the mechanistic understanding of GIBA across the life-course, and its modulation by lifestyle and other factors. It will provide a vehicle to deliver networking opportunities to facilitate closer collaborative relationships between diverse disciplines, signposting existing UK infrastructure and resources, with a strong focus on an inclusive and positive research culture that particularly fosters the development and visibility of early-career researchers (ECRs).
The post holder will be required to manage the daily operations of the Network, working collaboratively with Network partners and stakeholders. This includes those in the leadership team at the Universities of Southampton and Cambridge, Kings College London, and the Quadram Institute, as well as partners in the communication, public policy, IT and finance teams. The Network Manager will be responsible for organising and managing national events to support networking and training opportunities. The role will also require the organisation and dissemination of funding calls from the Network and the processes required for their review. In addition, it will involve the monitoring and reporting of research projects, fellowships and training placements supported by the Network.
The role requires expertise in project management, event planning and reporting. The successful candidate should have experience working independently to manage and monitor budgets and financial processes and the ability to communicate with stakeholders from diverse organisations. This full-time position is offered for a fixed-term for 48 months. The post will be aligned to the Faculty of Medicine, School of Human Development and Health based at the University of Southampton, Southampton General Hospital campus.
