Location: Learning Resources Centre, College Lane Campus, Hatfield, with regular travel to De Havilland Campus. Hybrid.
The University of Hertfordshire is seeking to recruit an Assistant Information Manager, who will be working closely with a team of Assistant Information Managers to support students across the academic schools. This role supports the academic, research, and organisational aims of the University of Hertfordshire by advocating for and embedding the team’s services and the library and information resources in the delivery of research-informed learning and teaching at the University.
Main duties and responsibilities
Key responsibilities include collaborating with students, researchers, and staff to understand their information needs and provide tailored support on locating, evaluating, and using information effectively. Main duties include providing face to face support for students through teaching and 1:1s, providing online support, welcoming new students at the beginning of the academic term through library induction activities, and working with staff to develop information and digital literacy skills, as well as support with Talis Aspire reading list software.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the planning, design, and development of the aims and objectives of the Academic Resources Team in Library and Computing Services.
Skills and experience required
You will have experience working in a library or information setting, with a strong track record in establishing productive working relationships with colleagues and groups of information services users at all levels. You will have expertise and experience in the discovery, delivery, application and use of information and apply this to planning, organisation, delivery and evaluation of formal and informal staff and student training and engagement activities.
You will have experience of providing 1:1 and group support with teaching and developing students and staff across an organisation, as well as developing the information and digital literacy skills of users. You will have knowledge of recent developments within the field of information, particularly issues around AI.
You will be an excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills, with experience of delivering good customer service. Along with practical IT skills and familiarity with common information sources, PC applications and social media. You will be committed to delivering services to agreed standards, using your organisation and time management skills to deliver outputs to deadlines.
Qualifications required
You will be educated with a minimum of a degree or equivalent, or significant proven experience. Also educated with a postgraduate professional qualification in librarianship or information science or proven relevant experience.
