The Opportunity:

This unique opportunity combines data science, epidemiology and clinical quality improvement research to improve cancer healthcare equity and outcomes in Scotland. You will be working on a project investigating healthcare equity, clinical practice and outcome variation across the whole of Scotland for patients with prostate cancer.

The Group is a multidisciplinary team of researchers, clinicians, and data scientists dedicated to advancing cancer research through informatics and data-driven approaches. The Edinburgh Cancer Centre is a leading centre for cancer care and research, with a strong focus on patient outcomes and data driven innovation.

This post is full-time (35 hours per week), however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns.  We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.

The successful candidate will work closely with our team to study inequity in prostate cancer healthcare and outcomes in Scotland to discover actionable insights that will lead to healthcare and outcome improvement. Your research will involve analyzing real-world data, and assessing the impact of healthcare inequity on patient outcomes. You will collaborate with clinicians, patients, health economists, data scientists and policy makers to develop a methodological framework for the implementation of effective healthcare equity metrics.

Your skills and attributes for success:

The post holder will be expected to deal with routine problems arising with health data research, using their accumulated career experience with only the more challenging, non-standard issues reported to the line manager and/or principal investigator for assistance. To use creativity, initiative and knowledge to develop new research methods, and explore new areas of research within the program. Use initiative and experience to analyse and interpret research data, and draw conclusions from it. Use initiative to help other researchers in the team to resolve project problems and develop new techniques and methods, as appropriate. A strong grounding in statistics and epidemiology with R-statistical programming skills is highly desirable.
