We are seeking a dedicated researcher to join the RSE Metascience project, which is working to advance the recognition and development of Research Software Engineers (RSEs) globally. In this role, you will be engaged in data science, contributing to the integration and analysis of survey data, compiling bibliometric data, and supporting software repository activities. You will play a pivotal role in developing analytical tools, generating actionable insights, and informing policies that enhance RSE careers and contributions to research.

Collaborating closely with project partners and under the guidance of the principal investigator, you will create the RSE Metascience Repository, ensuring its role as a cornerstone for evidence-based policymaking and global collaboration. Key responsibilities include leading the design and implementation of survey tools (e.g. for the International RSE Survey 2025), analysing repository data, and producing impactful research outputs for conferences, journals, and policy briefings with the support of Southampton Public Policy. You will also engage with stakeholders to align project activities with the evolving needs of the RSE community.

The position will be located within ECS on Highfield Campus and the management will be provided by the project’s Principle Investigator, Dr. Heather Packer. This position involves collaboration with the Software Sustainability Institute and Public Policy Southampton.
