We are seeking a talented and driven individual to join our team, with an initial focus on contributing to the Centre of Excellence in Regulatory Science and Innovation (CERSI) and a CMAC industry-funded project, working with global pharmaceutical companies and leading digital technology solution providers.
Contract: Fixed (until 31/01/27)
The Centre for Continuous Manufacturing and Advanced Crystallisation (CMAC) is a world-class centre of excellence for medicines manufacturing research, training and translation. Working in partnership with industry, CMAC’s goal is to transform the development and manufacture of medicines. Our portfolio is designed around four key pillars to deliver: high quality manufacturing research; the workforce of the future through skills development and training; effective translation of research into industry and, to continue to develop our world leading facilities and Lab of the Future infrastructure. Further details can be found in our 2021-2026 Strategy (www.cmac.ac.uk).
CMAC are now seeking to grow our team delivering world-class research and knowledge exchange projects, and providing operational and technical support for our infrastructure, world-class instrumentation and manufacturing research facilities. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dedicated team that works across a varied and complex equipment base, delivering world-class research.
We are seeking a talented and driven individual to join our team, with an initial focus on contributing to the Centre of Excellence in Regulatory Science and Innovation (CERSI) and a CMAC industry-funded project, working with global pharmaceutical companies and leading digital technology solution providers. Delivered by CMAC, CERSI leads the digital transformation of medicines development and manufacturing. In this role, you will lead a cutting-edge project within CERSI, advancing mechanistic, semi-mechanistic and data-driven modelling to inform continuous direct compression process development and predict quality attributes of tablets. Your work will play a pivotal role in driving regulatory innovation and shaping industry best practices.
The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in advancing predictive modelling and optimisation techniques to transform pharmaceutical processes and products. They will contribute to the development and integration of cutting-edge models, including flowsheet modelling, machine learning, and hybrid approaches, to expand CMAC’s system of models. A key responsibility will involve assessing the credibility of models for Continuous Direct Compression (CDC) while also developing reverse engineering approaches to inform particle engineering, enabling CDC manufacturing and achieving desired drug product quality attributes. Attention to detail will be essential, as all modelling methods and results must be carefully documented and disseminated to the wider technical, academic, industrial and regulatory community. The candidate will also contribute to the creation of training materials, supporting the effective translation of research outcomes to industry and regulatory stakeholders. This position offers the opportunity to make a significant impact at the forefront of pharmaceutical innovation.
The successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to keep accurate records through our existing electronic lab notebook system and follow best practice laboratory and reporting procedures will be essential. The post-holder should have problem solving abilities, demonstrating innovation and creativity in dealing with research challenges.
This is an exciting and challenging position which will provide a committed candidate with the opportunity to broaden their knowledge within a multidisciplinary environment working on ambitious collaborative projects at the academia-industry-regulatory interface to deliver real impact.
Formal interviews for this post will be held on Wednesday, 16 April 2025.
