The role
The Fluids and Aerodynamics Research Group at the University of Bristol is seeking to appoint a permanent academic position with a focus on future flight and sustainable aviation. We invite applications from a broad range of specialisms, with a research focus that aligns and complements the group’s existing capabilities in aerodynamics, aeroacoustics, aeroelasticity and aircraft design. The ideal candidate should be committed to advancing the sustainable future of aviation through both impactful research and high-quality teaching that will inspire the next generation of aerospace engineers.
The candidate should have a passion for developing the next generation of engineers through high-quality teaching and supervision. Teaching responsibility will be aligned with the new MSc Aerospace Engineering programme. The successful candidate will work with the existing programme team in the organisation and delivery of this new postgraduate degree, in addition to supporting teaching on the highly-ranked undergraduate programme.
This position presents a unique opportunity to join a world-renowned research team at the forefront of aeroacoustics, aerodynamics, computational simulation, and experimental methods. The candidate will contribute to ongoing research and work collaboratively with academia and industry to develop new research initiatives.
The successful candidate will be appointed to a Grade J, K (Lecturer), or L (Senior Lecturer) position, based on their skills, experience, and qualifications.
What will you be doing?
The successful candidate will: contribute to the delivery of high-quality research in the Fluids and Aerodynamics Research Group; provide teaching at undergraduate level and contribute to the delivery of postgraduate level teaching; and undertake academic leadership roles. The appointees at the Lecturer level (J/K) are expected to contribute actively to the group's ongoing teaching and research initiatives while working towards establishing their own independent teaching and research portfolios. Those appointed at the Senior Lecturer level (L) should demonstrate a proven track record in independent teaching and research, securing external funding, developing long-term strategic plans, and contributing to the management and leadership activities within the group. For the senior lecturer level, the role will entail leadership in developing and overseeing research and teaching activities at all levels. They will make a significant leadership and/or management contribution in the area of research and teaching.
