The School

The College of Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare at the University of West London is a leading provider of healthcare education in Berkshire and West London.  Mental health nursing courses are ranked 4th in the UK and 1st in London in the Guardian University Guide 2025.

Renowned for its excellence, the College offers a comprehensive range of pre-registration and post-registration courses, including nursing, midwifery, operating department practice, public health and paramedic science. Students benefit from state-of-the-art simulation centres at both the West London and Reading campuses, providing realistic clinical environments including our award-winning mental health simulated placement.  The College maintains strong partnerships with NHS Trusts and healthcare providers, ensuring that programmes are practice-focused and aligned with industry needs.

The Role

As part of our academic team, you will:

  • Design, develop, and deliver engaging, evidence-based teaching and simulation activities that align with the NMC (2018) Future Nurse: Standards of Proficiency for Registered Nurses. You will teach both field-specific and cross-field undergraduate and postgraduate pre-registration cohorts across our West London and Reading campuses, with opportunities to contribute to our CPD and interprofessional learning initiatives.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with healthcare providers across Berkshire, Central and North West London, and West London, ensuring that our programmes remain practice-focused, industry-relevant, and responsive to evolving healthcare needs.
  • Support student success in theory and placement learning.  You will engage and support students to achieve their potential and foster their professional growth.
  • Engage in Scholarly Knowledge Exchange: Actively participate in research, knowledge sharing, and professional development activities to enhance your own academic and professional expertise while contributing to the advancement of nursing education.

The Person

The successful candidate will possess a high level of expertise, skills, and substantial clinical experience in mental health nursing.  We are particularly interested in candidates with training in psychological therapies, experience in CYPMHS or who hold an NMP qualification; however, these are not essential requirements.

A good understanding of the NMC Future Nurse: Standards of Proficiency for Registered Nurses is essential.  Candidates should demonstrate exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, enabling them to work effectively and collaboratively with students, academic colleagues, clinical practitioners, as well as support and technical staff.  You will adopt a creative approach to developing and delivering learning materials that are evidence-based and current, thereby upholding the high standards of teaching and learning associated with the college. Additionally, you will have experience in managing your time efficiently and working autonomously.

Applicants must be registered with the NMC as a mental health nurse and hold a first degree in a relevant subject. For those applying for the senior lecturer position, a recognised teaching qualification in Higher Education, as well as a Master's or Doctorate, are required.
