Associate Director of Science and Engineering Partnerships (London)

University of Notre Dame in London

Job Description

The University of Notre Dame (USA) in England (UNDE) seeks a strategic and motivated individual to serve as the Associate Director of Science and Engineering Partnerships to facilitate UNDE’s support of the University of Notre Dame (Notre Dame or University).

Based in London, this position will play a critical role in expanding the visibility and reputation of Notre Dame’s science and engineering programs throughout Europe and help connect promising UK-and EU-based science and engineering trainees with Notre Dame’s graduate and postdoctoral programs in South Bend, Indiana. The successful candidate will work to enhance Notre Dame’s presence within the European community by building research and other strategic partnerships, promoting Notre Dame’s academic strengths in science and engineering, and fostering a network of collaborations that attract future talent and nurture relationships to support Notre Dame’s mission to be a force for good in the world.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promoting Notre Dame’s Reputation and Visibility: Lead initiatives that highlight Notre Dame’s science and engineering expertise in the UK and EU. Develop and execute strategies to raise awareness of Notre Dame’s research strengths and training opportunities within the UK and EU academic community.
  • Events and Workshops: Organize high-impact academic events, such as research symposia and public lectures, to showcase Notre Dame’s STEM research strengths, foster collaborations, and increase the University’s visibility in the UK across Europe.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with key stakeholders, including researchers, administrators, funding agencies, learned societies, and government bodies in the UK, to establish partnerships and create pathways for future collaborations. Engage Notre Dame alumni and families, in partnership with Notre Dame’s University Relations Division, to strengthen ties with London-based and wider European networks.
  • Recruitment of Science and Engineering Trainees: Develop targeted outreach efforts to encourage high-achieving UK-based students and early-career researchers to consider Notre Dame for graduate training or postdoctoral research. Collaborate with Notre Dame graduate admissions programs and academic departments to identify opportunities to promote these training pathways.
  • Networking and Representation: Represent Notre Dame at European conferences, academic meetings, and industry events to enhance the University’s profile as a leading research institution and cultivate relationships with key figures in the European research and educational communities.
  • Research Partnerships and Collaborative Programs: Facilitate and support joint projects, funding proposals, and exchange programs between Notre Dame science and engineering faculty and UK institutions that promote research excellence. Work with Notre Dame administrators to design and promote joint institutional initiatives—including joint scientific meetings, visiting professorships, graduate and postdoctoral exchanges, and internships—that reinforce Notre Dame’s commitment to global research collaboration and strengthen transatlantic ties.
  • UK Research Landscape Expertise: Serve as an expert on the UK and European research landscape, advising on government and private sector funding, research policies, and emerging trends to position Notre Dame as a competitive and desirable research partner.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ideally a minimum 5 years of experience, post terminal degree, working within academic or research-focused environments
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives
  • Excellent communication, networking, and interpersonal skills, able to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders and promote Notre Dame’s research mission
  • Proven ability to work independently in developing strategic initiatives and partnerships
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, with evidence of successfully managing projects, teams, or institutional initiatives

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven success in establishing international partnerships and managing collaborative projects
  • Familiarity with Notre Dame’s science and engineering programs and mission, with a commitment to advancing these goals within the UK and Europe
