Summary of the role

You will join a large and dynamic department that offers a range of single and joint-honours programmes in Theology and Religion tailored to students from all backgrounds. We are proud of our commitment to offer training in ancient languages at all levels, and of our continual commitment to expand the range and diversity of our research and teaching beyond the traditional core of the discipline. Our research is widely recognised for its commitment to interdisciplinarity and engagement with the wider world and we are home to a thriving community of postgraduate students.

We seek a new colleague who shares our commitment to inspirational teaching, to fostering and amplifying diverse and marginalised voices within Theology and Religion, to shaping a more inclusive discipline, and to the benefits that our discipline can bring to the wider world.

The role

You will support the delivery of teaching across a range of programmes within the Department of Classics, Ancient History, Religion and Theology. The post will include the design, development and production of teaching and learning material, and the delivery of teaching across a range of ancient history modules up to MA level. This will include Intermediate New Testament Greek, Early Christian Women, and The Bible: Past & Present, with the opportunity to develop your own module in the second year.

About you

You will:

  • Possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist and core knowledge in the discipline, demonstrated by a PhD or equivalent in Theology and Religion or Biblical Studies, to develop teaching programmes, and teach and support learning on theology and religion modules
  • Have good knowledge of New Testament Greek
  • Use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students
  • Participate in and develop external networks to build relationships for future activities, and contribute to student recruitment and outreach work
  • Have evidence of excellent teaching, identified by peer review, and have made an impact at discipline level beyond your own teaching
  • Be expected to work towards Fellow of the HEA status, where appropriate, and attend formal CPD relating to this

Please ensure you read the Job Description and Person Specification for full details of this role.

What we can offer you:

  • Freedom (and the support) to pursue your intellectual interests and to work creatively across disciplines
  • Support teams that understand the University wide teaching goals and partner with our academics accordingly
  • An Innovation, Impact and Business directorate that works closely with our academics providing specialist support for external engagement and development
  • Our Exeter Academic initiative supports high performing academics to achieve their potential and develop their career
  • A multitude of staff benefits including sector leading benefits around maternity, adoption and shared parental leave (up to 26wks full pay), Paternity leave (up to 6wks full pay), and a Fertility Treatment Policy
