We are seeking an outstanding researcher wishing to lead an exciting mixed-methods research project with direct clinical application. The successful applicant will have a PhD in a related health discipline and experience of in leading the design and data collection of research projects within the NHS. You will have the opportunity to lead the MND Alert project and contribute to the expanding Better Outcomes in MND research group.

The Neuroscience division comprises multidisciplinary groups from Neurology, Neuropathology, Neuropsychology and Neuroimaging working in both basic and clinical neuroscience. The major areas of research interest are in neurodegenerative diseases (diseases of the motor system, basal ganglia and dementia), epilepsy (including non-epileptic attack disorder), stroke and neuroinflammation. The Neurodegenerative Disease group research portfolio includes genetic, cellular, molecular and clinical research into common disorders including motor neurone diseases, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease and the ageing brain and dementia. The research focus is strongly translational and is primarily located in a 2,800m2 research facility, the Sheffield Institute of Translational Neuroscience (SITraN) which was officially opened by Her Majesty the Queen, in November 2010. There are strong collaborative links with other Neuroscience groups within The University of Sheffield.

You will have the opportunity to lead the design, set-up and conduct of health services research projects, primarily using qualitative interviews. This will include writing protocols and other relevant supporting documents; assist with submissions for ethical, governance and regulatory approvals; lead the consent process, data collection and data analysis; and research findings dissemination.
