CUHK Faculty of Law

Short-term Visiting Fellows Programme

The Faculty of Law at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK LAW) is among the most dynamic and accomplished law schools in Asia. Since welcoming its inaugural cohort in 2006, CUHK LAW’s achievements in research and education have been internationally recognized. This recognition is further reflected in the most recent Research Assessment Exercise (2020) conducted by the Hong Kong University Grants Committee, where CUHK LAW’s research strength was underscored by an impressive 83% of its research activities being rated as “world-leading” (4*) or “internationally excellent” (3*). With a strong global outlook, our academic staff represent nearly twenty jurisdictions through their origins or training.

The opportunity

CUHK LAW is offering funded visiting research positions to outstanding early- and mid-career scholars, known as Short-term Visiting Fellows, to participate in academic visits of up to four days duration to our campus in Hong Kong.

Fellows will engage in several activities during their short visit, for instance, giving public talks, meeting faculty members and participating in seminars and events.

CUHK LAW offers financial support for each selected Fellow towards expenses incurred, including a round trip economy class airfare, accommodation, and courteous support to cover local travel and meals.

Fellows will be early- and mid-career scholars, who are authors of high-impact scholarship and recipients of notable awards and prizes.

The timing of the visit is flexible and can be arranged to accommodate the Fellow’s availability in the academic year.

Applicants interested in discussing this opportunity informally are invited to contact Professor Samuli Seppänen at sseppanen@cuhk.edu.hk.

Application procedure

Applicants should submit a cover letter (maximum of 2 pages) and a full curriculum vitae to law.apply@cuhk.edu.hk. The applications are due on 31 March 2025.
