Religious Studies at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is ranked 47th globally in the QS World University Rankings by Subject. The Department of Cultural and Religious Studies (CRS) is a pivotal institution in the development of religious studies within the Chinese-speaking world. 

Within CRS, Buddhist Studies is a key area of specialization, with a particular focus on Buddhism in China. Our multi-disciplinary approach provides students with systematic and comprehensive training in Buddhist Studies at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Bilingualism is also central to teaching and research at CUHK. 

The Department is now conducting a global search to make a senior hire in Buddhist Studies. Interested applicants are invited to submit an application for the position of “Sarina and Ho Pak Kong Professor in Buddhist Studies”. 

Applicants should have (i) a Ph.D. or higher degree in Buddhist Studies, preferably with a focus on Chinese Buddhism or a related field; (ii) a proven record of original and outstanding scholarship that leads the field; (iii) a record of or demonstrated potential for securing research grants; (iv) a strong commitment to teaching both postgraduate and undergraduate courses, including general education courses related to Chinese Buddhism; and (v) experience in supervising M.Phil./Ph.D. students. 

The appointee will carry the title of “Sarina and Ho Pak Kong Professor in Buddhist Studies” and will be expected to (a) teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses; (b) supervise M.Phil./Ph.D. students; and (c) direct the renamed Buddhist Studies Centre and the Master of Arts Programme in Buddhist Studies. 

Appointment will be made at the Full or Associate Professor rank with substantiation (tenure). Other terms of appointments are possible and may be negotiated. Salary will be highly competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
