About us

The NJU Nanjing-Helsinki Institute was established in April 2022 through a partnership between Nanjing University and the University of Helsinki. We are the first Sino-foreign cooperative education institution in China that provides double degree programs in Atmospheric Sciences for both undergraduate and postgraduate. Drawing disciplinary advantages from two universities in atmospheric and earth sciences, we are dedicated to training talents with the potential to lead in addressing pressing global issues like climate change, sustainable development, while contributing to prosperous global future. We aim to develop a strong team of faculty who are from all around the world and specialize in a variety of research interests (atmospheric sciences and artificial intelligence, socio-economics, ecological health and other disciplines). We have enrolled our first and second classes of students with a total number of 267, including undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students, and in the future, we will have over 600 students in total. We are committed to creating a brand-new, multidisciplinary cultivation system, with more attention on the cross-disciplinary studies and international exchanges. All courses and lectures are provided in English, and students who complete the program and meet the degree requirements will receive two degrees both from Nanjing University and the University of Helsinki. Job description

We are looking for candidates who have a distinguished record of accomplishment in, but not limited to the field of Atmospheric and Earth System Sciences, and are committed to excellence in research and teaching mainly on Suzhou Campus of Nanjing University. Tenure-Track Associate or Assistant Professor position is open for application. Tenured Position for high-level talent may be further negotiated separately. The research areas can be one of the following:

  1. Atmospheric Dynamics;
  2. Boundary Layer and Urban Meteorology;
  3. Cloud Physics and Radiation;
  4. Atmospheric Chemistry and Aerosols;
  5. Ecological Meteorology;
  6. Earth System Modeling;
  7. Climate Change and Its Impacts and Adaptation;
  8. Artificial Intelligence and Big Data for Meteorology;
  9. Greenhouse Gas Measurements and Modeling;
  10. Planetary Atmospheres;
  11. Atmospheric Environment, Weather and Health;
  12. Atmospheric Measurement and Satellite Remote Sensing;
  13. Climate Economics.

Requirements

  1. Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences or related fields with a record of academic excellence;
  2. For Tenure-Track Assistant Professors, ideally at least 2 years of research experience after PhD graduation; 
  3. For Tenure-Track Associate Professors, ideally at least 4 years of research experience after PhD graduation (may be further discussed in case of exceptional);
  4. Proven record of excellence in teaching and good academic track record for the career stage and international recognition.

Remuneration

Basic salary:

  1. Competitive remuneration, salary negotiable;
  2. Start-up funding for scientific research;
  3. Turnover apartments, housing subsidies, and eligible for purchasing commercial housing offered by the university at a special discount;
  4. Assistance in children’s schooling at primary and secondary school levels. Salary for all positions is highly competitive at an international standard, including insurance and housing subsidies.
