The Department of Psychiatry is based on the Warneford Hospital site in Oxford – a friendly, welcoming place of work with an international reputation for excellence. The Department has a substantial research programme, with major funding from Medical Research Council (MRC), Wellcome Trust and National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and provides highly rated medical training in psychiatry. The Head of Department is Professor Belinda Lennox.

We are recruiting a Clinical Researcher to work in a research focused treatment resistant depression clinic in Oxford. This is an exciting opportunity to develop skills in clinical management of mood disorders while getting academic experience and/or establishing an academic career.  This post will suit a medical doctor specialising in psychiatry or a staff grade psychiatrist

The post is full-time however consideration would be given to candidates wishing to work part-time on a pro rata basis (minimum 80% FTE).

About the Role

The post is funded until 31 January 2028 and is based in the Department of Psychiatry at the Warneford Hospital.  

The post will involve the assessment of patients with depression recruited from the general community and via referral from both primary and secondary care, the clinical management of patients recruited to both academic and industry sponsored studies, and collaboration with clinical and academic colleagues locally and in academic centres throughout the UK. The post will include the opportunity to work with experts in depression, learn about clinical management of patients with depression (their assessment, treatment) and to participate in clinical teaching sessions appropriate to the professional level.

About You

This is a clinical post and you must be medically qualified. For the duration of this University academic post, you will maintain an honorary contract with Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust and for this, you will need to maintain registration with the GMC with a licence to practise. Clinic activity will be undertaken within the governance of the Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust.

Experience of working with individuals with mental health disorders, particularly mood disorders is essential as is a strong interest in clinical research. Research experience in mental health and experience authoring research publications would be desirable.
