York Trials Unit (YTU) wishes to appoint a Trial Manager to contribute to high-quality research. This post offers the opportunity to be part of a large and successful multi-disciplinary unit, renowned for its methodological expertise and commitment to policy relevant research. York Trials Unit (YTU) is a UKCRC registered trials unit undertaking national and international, scientifically rigorous, trials in a variety of areas whilst having a strong methodological portfolio associated with the conduct and analysis of trials. YTU undertakes trials in a range of subject areas including surgery, mental health, musculoskeletal disorders, education and public health.

We wish to appoint a Trial Manager with vast experience of trial co-ordination and in making grant applications to national peer reviewed funding competitions. You will have extensive knowledge and experience in the design and delivery of randomised controlled trials. You will have a PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline, a successful track record of securing funding, and of leadership and delivery in the field of applied health research. You will be able to demonstrate research management and leadership skills as well as excellent collaboration with NHS and other research partners. You will also be committed to ensuring your research achieves maximum impact and recognise the importance of patient and public involvement in research.

Role

  • To set-up, co-ordinate and lead trials working across several projects.
  • Supervise the work of trial coordinators, trial support officers and others and provide expert advice and guidance.
  • To contribute to obtaining external research funding.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • First or higher degree in relevant discipline.
  • PhD in relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of randomised controlled trials methodologies to engage in high-quality research.
  • Awareness of funding streams available and current agenda around research funding and ability to identify sources of funding.
  • Knowledge of the structures to support NHS research and governance/ethics framework and knowledge of the procedures involved in research governance and ethics.
  • Knowledge of NHS organisations, services and procedures and knowledge of Good Clinical Practice.
  • Ability to lead and/or take responsibility for large scale research projects.
  • Ability to supervise the work of others.
  • Evidence of dissemination of scholarly work.

It may become a requirement for anyone successfully appointed to this role to undertake an enhanced DBS check, in order to undertake specific project work. Appointees will be asked to declare any spent convictions at the point at which a project requires an enhanced DBS check. The enhanced DBS check will then be carried out before they undertake work relating to that specific project.

Condition of employment

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. Consequently, all applicants will be asked to declare both unspent and spent convictions on their application form.

Appointment of the successful candidate will be conditional on a Disclosure and Barring Service check.
