About us
The post is offered jointly between the Departments of History and History of Art. UCL History, which dates back to 1830, is consistently ranked as one of the best history departments in the world for quality of both its research and teaching. The department has around 41 permanent academic staff complemented by a team of Graduate Teaching Assistants and Research Fellows working on a range of funded research projects. All aspects of departmental activity are facilitated and supported by a professional services team. Departmental life is enriched by a number of Research Associates working on specific funded projects. We also host early career researchers. The department’s undergraduate student numbers are around 770; with a sizable graduate student body of 107 taught graduate students and around 50 research students. UCL History of Art is a medium-sized department, based within the Faculty of Social & Historical Sciences, with a high international reputation. The Department’s research was ranked 1st in London for Art and Design: History, Practice and Theory by REF 2021 (overall GPA rankings). We have 22 permanent academic staff, who have a wide range of approaches to the history of art, working across an expanded geography with particular interests in image cultures, the materials and materiality of art, and visual technologies of all kinds. The department has around 300 students, supported by a professional services team of six people and in 2023 we launched an exciting new MSc Conservation of Contemporary Art & Media at UCL East, a new campus in east London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
About the role
The Events and Communications Manager works across the Departments of History and History of Art, and plays a key role in the planning and delivery of a range of events, seminars, special lectures, conferences and alumni engagement events in both departments. The post holder, in liaison with the Department Managers, is responsible for implementing marketing and communications strategies, enhancing our student recruitment and widening participation work, developing and managing internal and external communications activities, and has responsibility for the design and maintenance of the departments’ websites and social media presence. The Events and Communications Officer is also a key liaison with alumni and distinguished external speakers. The post holder works with a high degree of flexibility to split their time between the two departments. They will also line-manage an Administrative Assistant working across the two departments who covers a range of duties, which include s providing support for events and internal communications activities.

About you
The successful candidate will be educated to degree level or equivalent with up-to-date knowledge of social media channels and developments. A strong track record of managing and delivering top quality strategic communications and campaigns is a must. They will also be able demonstrate excellent communication skills and develop relations within the team as well as with partners/stakeholders.
