The Department of Civil Engineering of Neapolis University Pafos (Cyprus) announces an Academic Position in the specialization of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics

The Department runs undergraduate and postgraduate programs. In addition, as part of the evolving international collaboration of the Neapolis University Pafos with foreign universities, the Department has recently launched a Joint BSc in Civil Engineering International Programme with the Baoding University of Technology (BUT) of the People’s Republic of China.

The successful candidates will participate in the specific joint undergraduate programme, mainly taking responsibility for teaching of a number of courses at the Baoding University of Technology in China. They will be required to be based and work at Baoding University of Technology for a period of 6-8 weeks per semester (based upon teaching and other learning process responsibilities that may arise), while spending the remaining time for teaching or research at the Neapolis University Pafos.

The decision to appoint will be determined at the interview and will be based on merit, while the rank will be decided according to the academic qualifications and experience of the candidate. Therefore, the candidate should indicate his expertise in their cover letter.

Job Title:

Lecturer/Assistant Professor in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics: To teach courses such as College Physics, Theoretical Mechanics, Mechanics of Materials, Fluid Mechanics, etc.

Commencement Date: April 2025

Major Duties:

  • Deliver a range of teaching activities mainly in China, select appropriate assessment instruments and criteria, assess the work and progress of students and provide constructive feedback to students
  • Deliver support activities such as webinars, seminars, etc.
  • Plan and manage own teaching, workshops and tutorials
  • Use teaching resources, laboratories and workshops as required and in line with best practice
  • Be responsible for the record–keeping associated with teaching, the preparation of teaching materials and assessments
  • Act as a personal tutor (mentor and advisor) for students
  • Engage in scholarly activity
  • Collaborate with other staff within the Department
  • Contribute to the Department’s outreach strategy 

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION ATTRIBUTES

Essential

  • PhD in Civil Engineering or a related field
  • Availability to be based and work in China for a period of 6-8 weeks per semester
  • Proficient level of English and ability to teach non-native audience in English
  • Ability to plan and organise the effective delivery and assessment of taught courses
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate theses
  • Actively involved in research with publications in journals
  • Willingness to contribute towards the School’s teaching and research plans
  • Proficient knowledge and use of Chinese language and ability to teach

Desirable

  • University lecturing and teaching experience
  • Civil Engineering Professional Experience
