About us

The Department of Neurodegenerative Disease is recognised as internationally leading in the study of neurodegenerative diseases causing dementia and related disorders.

The mission of the Genetic Therapy Accelerator Centre (GTAC), located within the Department, is to embed translational research into the basic research and clinical activities of the Queen Square Institute of Neurology. The Centre combines laboratory and clinical expertise focused on neuromuscular and neurological disorders, their mechanisms of disease and includes cutting-edge RNA and AAV gene therapy expertise. The Centre fosters cross-institutional collaborations and facilitate RNA and gene therapy programs.

About the role

We are recruiting a talented and enthusiastic Research Assistant with a background in neuroscience and gene therapy, and a strong interest in translational research, to work on a translational AAV gene therapy project for Parkinson’s disease at the GTAC under the direction of Professor Joanne Ng.

You will join a team at the forefront of in vivo gene therapy projects focused on neurological and neuromuscular disorders, contributing to an in vivo Parkinson’s disease gene therapy programme.

The role is available from 01 April 2024 and funded the Sigrid Rausing Trust Neurogenetic Therapies Programme until 31st March 2026 in the first instance.

About you

You will hold an MSc in Biological Science, Neuroscience, or Cell & Gene therapy, as well as a UK Home Office Personal Licence. Experience in molecular biology and immunohistochemistry, along with good problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills are also essential for this role.
