The Department of Computer Science and Technology is an academic department that encompasses computer science along with many aspects of engineering, technology and mathematics. We have a world-wide reputation for academic research with consistently high research ratings, with around 340 academic staff, research associates, and PhD students actively engaged in research projects within the department. As the HR team expands, we have an exciting new opening for an HR Coordinator who will support the delivery of a professional and effective HR service. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to make the next step in their HR career as the role is both interesting as it is varied, touching on all aspects of the employment cycle, with the opportunity to implement  procedural improvements and to get involved in key projects across the HR team.

Reporting to the HR Manager, the post holder will be confident and able to liaise with people at all levels across the department, be accurate when producing documentation and managing data and able to prioritise work in a role where there is a range of activities that require proactive and efficient management to support core HR activities. As one of four team members, the role holder will offer first line HR advice to line managers and employees where needed.

On a day-to-day basis, you will assist in coordinating HR policies & processes and support the Department with a wide variety of HR tasks which includes but is not limited to:

  • Recruitment administration, ensuring a streamlined onboarding process for new starters;
  • Advise hiring staff & employees on HR policy, such as compliance & immigration matters;
  • Provide ad-hoc administrative support to the HR Manager;
  • Visitor administration;
  • Employee contract amendments;
  • Maintaining digital employee personnel files, ensuring employment records and documents are compliant, filed and retained according to data management and retention guidelines;
  • The daily proactive management of the HR inbox.

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual with experience of HR administration, demonstrable knowledge of HR policies and procedures, and excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills. The ideal candidate will be Educated to HND/ HNC level, level 4/ 5 vocational qualification or have an equivalent level of practical experience of HR matters, ideally in a Higher Education environment.

You will enjoy communicating with individuals and be the type of person who strives for a high level of quality in everything that you do. You will feel comfortable being able to work to deadlines and be happy to be a team player.

The post is full-time working 36.5 hours per week. Conversations about flexible working are encouraged at the University of Cambridge.
