Senior Lecturer in Law

FTE: 1.0 fte (working 37 hours per week)

Salary: UH8 £45,163 pa with potential to progress to £56,921 pa by annual increments

Annual Leave: 35 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year

Main duties and responsibilities 

Teaching and Programme Development

We are seeking a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer who will teach on our LLM Bar course and LLB programme with responsibility for Professional Ethics, Trail Advocacy, Criminal Litigation, Tort Law, and Family Law modules. You will assist and support other Module Leaders on the LLB Programme, and lead a module yourself.

You will work co-operatively and supportively as part of the School's teaching team, including off-campus student outreach and other recruitment activities such as open days where required. You will also work closely with the Associate Deans, Head of Department, and Programme Leaders in order to continue the development of the School’s teaching and learning initiatives and ensure the currency and innovative nature of the curriculum.

Research

The Lecturer/Senior Lecturer will contribute to the ongoing development of the School’s growing research community and be able to go on to pursue a programme of research to a standard appropriate for consideration under the Research Excellence Framework (REF), including the ability to secure external funding opportunities. 

Pastoral Support

You will contribute to the School’s academic and pastoral care of its students and to the enhancement of their learning, personal development and achievement, particularly through acting as a Personal Tutor.

Skills and experience required

You will have proven teaching experience at an undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, especially on a professional legal education programme in the following areas: Professional Ethics, Trail Advocacy, Criminal Litigation, Tort Law, and Family Law. You will also have experience of designing or contributing to the design of engaging and intellectually stimulating modules which have professional or industry relevance.

You will possess the ability to use technology to enhance the quality and flexibility of delivery to students, and to promote the activities of the School’s students. You will have subject expertise in Professional Ethics, Trail Advocacy, Criminal Litigation, Tort Law, and Family Law. Proficiency in English Language is critical, with good self-management and time management skills and excellent written and oral communication skills.

An enthusiastic approach towards work and the work of the School within a business-facing University, and a commitment to the ongoing development of teaching and learning skills (in particular the growing use of technology in relation to blended learning activities) is essential for this role.

Qualifications required

You will hold a Bachelors degree, or equivalent qualification, as well as a Masters degree in Law or equivalent level professional qualification.
