EMBLAZE are pleased to invite applicants for the bespoke opportunity to receive an EMBLAZE funded scholarship.
This scholarship covers the cost of entry to our EMBLAZE Talent Agency Masterclass for writers of colour. The cost of this course, on a fee-paying basis, is £1,000.
The Masterclass runs Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 6.30-8.30pm from the 13th to 27th of March, requiring a commitment of approximately four hours per week. For those unable to attend on these dates, flexible options are available on application.
Scholarship Details
The scholarship will be awarded to select applicants of the EMBLAZE Talent Agency Masterclass series who identify as a writer of colour, are a resident of the UK, who demonstrate a clear passion and talent in writing, and who contributes well to EMBLAZE’s supportive ethos and community.
On this course you will learn the science behind plot, learn to craft engaging characters, how to work with an editor, and the business of being a writer from working with a PR team or doing it yourself, including submitting to agents and how to work with a publisher. You’ll also nurture your relationship to writing by understanding your own process and identifying your obstacles and goals through a FreeWrite workshop.
The Masterclass course, designed and delivered by successful and established writers, offers writers invaluable insights into how to bring a work of fiction, narrative non-fiction, or of short story prose to completion, and how to pitch it to editors and publishers. In a world where every story of colour matters, but not every story gets told or listened to, the Masterclasses aim to foster ecosystems of support, inspiration and creative nourishment for Black writers.
Flexible Routes
The scholarship recipient may apply to attend individual Masterclass sessions instead of the full course. If you are interested in the Masterclass but cannot attend on the advertised date(s), we encourage you to complete the application and register for deferred entry. If there is sufficient demand, we will run the Masterclass again and notify those on the waitlist.

About EMBLAZE
EMBLAZE is an imprint of Paper Nations, the award-winning creative writing incubator based in The Story Society research centre at Bath Spa University. This Arts Council England funded project aims to illuminate story-focused projects across the Southwest of England, targeting readers and writers of colour and those in rural areas and areas of low cultural engagement. We believe that Black stories matter and want to make sure that no story goes untold.
