Overall Purpose of the Job
(Scanning) transmission electron microscopy is one of the few techniques able to directly visualise nanoscale compositional changes and single atoms in nanoparticle catalyst materials. The capabilities of STEM have progressed rapidly in recent years, including meV energy resolution and oxidation state characterisation at the atomic scale. This has produced many exciting scientific insights into materials phenomena and the relationship between catalytic materials and the synthesis.
This post-doctoral research associate position will develop advanced transmission electron microscope capabilities and apply this to investigate nanomaterial’s produced in the Elemental hub project.
You will work closely with bioengineers and chemists to enable insights from the characterisation to be applied to develop improved catalytic materials. Applications of the materials of interest in this work include bioremediation and recovery, circular economy and sustainable catalysts.
