The Department of Physics is looking to recruit a Communications Officer in a full-time permanent position (part-time considered; minimum 0.8FTE).
The Communications Officer will work with the Head of Communications to deliver the communication strategy (internal and external) for the Department of Physics. The postholder will use their background in physics and proven track record in science copywriting to work with researchers to produce impactful content for the Department of Physics’ communication channels. They will work as part of a small team to increase the profile of the Department of Physics to a broad range of audiences.
The postholder will spend their time generating engaging, dynamic content that promotes the work of the Department of Physics and will help to manage the Department of Physics’ communication channels.
The successful candidate should be educated to degree level or equivalent professional experience with an undergraduate degree in physics, or other evidence of ability to engage rapidly and effectively with unfamiliar technical, scientific material. They will have extensive internal and external science communications experience in print, digital and social media. They will have excellent writing skills and attention to detail, with a proven ability to communicate complex concepts to a non-specialist audience. Their excellent interpersonal skills will include diplomacy and the ability to inspire the confidence of senior colleagues. They will have the ability to work independently in a complex environment, taking initiative when necessary and prioritising effectively to meet deadlines. They will be proficient in working with a range of computer-based and online applications, including website content management systems. They will have excellent research and analytical skills, including the ability to interpret complex data.
This appointment is full-time and permanent; part-time considered (minimum 0.8FTE)
