We are dedicated to providing all applicants equality of opportunity and we now have an opportunity for you to join us as an Assistant Technician in the Microbiology Division.

You will be responsible for creating media and diluents, gathering and sterilizing consumables for practical classes and research groups. You will monitor and order stock items as well as maintain our own essential supplies of sterile glassware, media and equipment. You will participate in trailing, set up and clear down of practical classes, updating technical notes, supporting indirect research and helping with getting specialised equipment ready for servicing. To ensure our services are of the highest standard, you will play a key role in helping us maintain sterility, aseptic practices, and a clean & tidy working environment.

Your application must demonstrate, in specific detail, how you meet the following essential criteria:

  • Good general education to equivalent of GCSE, NVQ2, City and Guilds in scientific subject e.g. Biology, Chemistry or General Science.
  • Able to effectively plan and prioritise allocated work activities on a day to day basis
  • Able to solve a range of problems by responding to varying circumstances, whilst working within standard procedures.
  • Good working knowledge of health and safety policy and procedures affecting self and others
  • Previous relevant work experience in a microbiology or a life science role.
