Our Safeguarding team provides high quality, professional services to support students who may be at risk of harm, exploitation or who are experiencing complex welfare issues, including students who have experienced, or are at risk of, Gender-Based Violence.

Currently, we are recruiting a full time Safeguarding and Gender Based Violence Adviser to join the team to provide valuable advice, guidance and support to both staff and students on a range of complex safeguarding issues, with a particular focus on gender-based violence, to enable management and mitigation of risk.

The Role:

This is a challenging but highly rewarding role where your main focus will be on supporting students to manage their own risk through implementing practical interventions.

The post will give you the opportunity to use your experience and expertise in delivering services for survivors of sexual violence and hate incidents, to case manage students who may be at risk of harm, exploitation or who are experiencing complex welfare issues.

Your knowledge of the national and HEI landscape relating to gender-based violence and hate incidents will serve you well as you make referrals to specialist services and undertake partnership work with both internal and external colleagues, including NHS services, Social Care Direct, Police Scotland and Third Sector organisations.

The post also has a strategic and capacity building element supporting the delivery of the University’s Joint Strategy Preventing and Tackling Gender Based Violence and Hate Incidents.

As such, you will be in an excellent position to develop your skills and knowledge through active engagement with external networks and participation in appropriate national events, in order to keep abreast of contemporary safeguarding issues, informing your practice and developing and refining processes within Edinburgh Napier.

This is an excellent opportunity to play a primary role in the implementation of the University’s Student Safeguarding Policy and to position yourself as an expert and leader in your field.

What we will need from you:

  • Post graduate qualification in a relevant subject eg. Social Work, Community Education, Mental Health OR demonstrated relevant experience.
  • Experience of delivering a service for survivors of sexual violence and/or hate incidents.
  • Expertise and knowledge of the national and HEI landscape relating to gender-based violence and hate incidents.
  • Significant experience in supporting physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
  • Membership of Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme (PVG) (or willingness to apply)

Benefits we offer:

Salary: £37,174 - £45,413 p/a (depending on experience) + Pension (Employer contribution of 17.6%)

41 days (31 days flexible + 10 fixed) paid annual leave per annum
