The University of Southampton is committed to excellence in all we do, applying our insights and inventiveness to solve the most complex societal and environmental challenges. As a world-leading, research-intensive university, with a strong and high-quality educational offering, we are renowned for our innovation and enterprise and are within the top 1% of universities worldwide.
We are looking for a creative and engaging person to join our growing and dynamic Student Enterprise Team in the Careers, Employability and Student Enterprise Division. This is a fantastic opportunity to guide and support our students and recent graduates through the process of starting their own business or social enterprise. You will work closely with other Student Enterprise Consultants in the team to develop students’ knowledge and awareness of the importance of enterprise skills. Last year we opened a brand-new city centre co-working and events space to act as the hub for our growing student enterprise ecosystem, linking students, businesses, local entrepreneurs and experts.
About You
You will be a confident, credible, and motivated person with the ability to communicate and inspire others. You will need excellent organisational skills, can deliver to deadlines, and manage multiple activities. You’ll have a passion for entrepreneurship, a wealth of business knowledge and experience to run one-to-one advice sessions and create and deliver skills development workshops to students.
The ideal candidate will have experience or knowledge in setting up their own business, working in a growing start-up and/or delivering a programme of support to students in enterprise and entrepreneurship, ideally within a Higher Education setting. You will be able to provide evidence of sector knowledge and demonstrate successful outcomes. On top of this, you’ll develop your own ideas for a wide range of student enterprise activities and creative ways to connect with business experts.
What we can offer you
We are committed to supporting our staff and students, we are open to a flexible and hybrid working approach.
As well as additional benefits that will make your life easier, such as a generous holiday allowance and additional university closure days, we will support your long-term future too, with access to the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS), subsidised health and fitness facilities and a range of discounts.
We believe equality, diversity and inclusion are fundamental to making the University of Southampton a welcoming, vibrant, and successful organisation. Having a diverse workforce, inclusive of people of all ages and beliefs, from different racial, educational, and social backgrounds opens up a wealth of possibilities, makes us more creative and accelerates our impact on society. We welcome applicants that value the diversity of our community and are willing to play their part in supporting the mission of inclusivity.
For more information about the role, we welcome and encourage you to arrange an informal chat with Tom Simmonds, Head of Student Enterprise by emailing T.W.Simmonds@soton.ac.uk.
