We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated researcher ideally from an oncology background. The post-holder will work within the Biomaterials group (Gough and Tsigkou) and Translational Radiobiology group (Choudhury). The successful applicant will participate in a research programme that supports the aims of CRUK RadNet Manchester.

The project aims to exploit advanced materials to generate robust tumour microenvironment (TME) models for evaluation of novel drug-radiotherapy approaches. This will be done by developing 3D self-assembling peptide hydrogels that replicate the complex biophysical properties of the extracellular matrix and allow introduction of composite cell populations of the TME. The system will reproduce physical, biochemical and physiological cues that drive cancer cell behaviour in vivo.

The post holder will undertake research and experiments using a broad range of techniques and will work within a multi-disciplinary team of cell biologists, clinicians and bioinformaticians. They will prepare deliverables, present the progress of work in technical meetings and participate in the supervision of PhD and MSc students, contribute to the preparation of funding applications, participate in international scientific conferences and prepare high quality scientific publications.

What you will get in return:

  • Fantastic market leading Pension scheme
  • Excellent employee health and wellbeing services including an Employee Assistance Programme
  • Exceptional starting annual leave entitlement, plus bank holidays
  • Additional paid closure over the Christmas period
  • Local and national discounts at a range of major retailers
