Applications are invited for a part time (minimum 0.6FTE) Research Assistant position to join the Cambridge Blood and Stem Cell Biobank, which works closely with academic research groups and the regional Haemato-oncology Diagnostic Service at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
Established in 2009, the Cambridge Blood and Stem Cell Biobank is a core facility essential for research in the department of Haematology and beyond. The group is closely involved in clinical and research activities at Addenbrooke's and Rosie Hospitals, Cambridge, with pivotal role in translational research into Haematological disorders and stem cell biology. The biobank collects material from multiple sites recruiting patients across the UK, and is increasingly attracting research collaborations with investigators across the UK, Europe and the USA, alongside Cambridge-based research groups from the Biomedical Campus, Babraham and Sanger Institutes.
We are seeking motivated individuals to become valued members of the research team. You will have good organisational skills, a flexible approach to work, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. The majority of the work will involve the processing and banking of cellular subsets from patients with haematological and other malignancies, including cell sorting, cell culture and molecular biology. Experience of these techniques would be an advantage but is not essential. Previous experience of clinical trials and/or database optimisation would be an advantage. This post would particularly suit a scientist looking to hone their specialist technical skills and/or biobanking and be involved in clinical research with direct patient benefit.
The successful applicant should have a degree in an appropriate biological subject or substantial basic laboratory experience.
Part-time applications where the applicant is able to work 3 full days are encouraged. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the work, school hours/term-time only applications cannot be considered.
Questions regarding the post can be directed to Dr Joanna Baxter who can be contacted at ejb60@cam.ac.uk.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 March 2026 in the first instance.
