We are the University of Cumbria, for and from Cumbria and our localities, rooted in serving our communities, with people, place and partnership at our heart.
Now is a very exciting time to be joining us because we are delivering a new "Towards 2030" strategic plan focused on making the most of our three most valuable assets; People, Place and Partnerships, to become a catalyst for economic well-being for our region, nationally and internationally.
Student Support, within the Student Services Directorate, is looking to appoint an experienced International Student Adviser to work as a key member of our Student Engagement Team. The Directorate is made up of specialist teams who provide high quality services and support to diverse learners through multi-campus locations and online programmes, to maximise their potential for success. Information, advice and support is provided on a wide range of issues including student money, accommodation, disability, mental health and wellbeing, pastoral support, and general welfare including re-engagement with studies.
If you are looking for a varied and exciting role supporting international students, then we would love to hear from you.
Predominantly providing advice and guidance to our growing international student population, you will be responsible for advising and supporting individuals and groups of students on a range of welfare, immigration, personal and study-related issues from pre-entry through to graduation.
You will work closely with teams from Student Services, Academic Registry, International Development and academic Institutes, to ensure students identified as being at risk of disengagement are contacted and supported early on to enable student success and a positive student experience, including signposting on to specialist teams for support as needed. This also involves fostering links and joint working with the Students’ Union to enable a rewarding and fully integrated student experience.
Working with colleagues across the University, you will also be responsible for designing, managing and delivering face-to-face and online activities at key points during the student life-cycle; e.g. induction sessions, in-year events and workshops.
This post will be based at our Carlisle campus, with occasional paid travel to our Ambleside and Lancaster campuses. It is a student-facing role, with the majority of work on campus. The post is 0.8FTE and permanent, with hours falling mostly within Monday to Friday 9-5, with some flexibility as needed to meet the needs of our diverse learners.
Interviews will be held at our Carlisle Fusehill Street Campus.
Previous applicants need not apply.
We encourage applications from the broadest range of society, including all under-represented groups with particular emphasis on Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic candidates, who are currently under-represented in our University and in comparison, to the sector.
