Overview
The Industry 4.0 revolution is driving smart manufacturing while highlighting the need for sustainability to achieve Net-Zero goals. Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) integrate machines, robots, and AGVs, but challenges like mechanical wear and electronic errors pose risks to efficiency, increasing costs and resource waste. This Ph.D. project aims to address these challenges by advancing fault diagnosis and prognosis (FDP) for complex mechatronic systems. Building on Supervisor Team's validated physics-informed digital twin FDP approach, developed with industry leaders like AMRC, the project aims to enhance this method and elevate its Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs), supporting sustainable operations in diverse industrial environments.

Eligibility Criteria
A minimum 2:1 Honours degree or international equivalent in a subject relevant to the proposed PhD project (such as mathematics or theoretical physics) is our standard entry, however we place value on prior experience, enthusiasm for research, and the ability to think and work independently. Excellent Analytical skills and strong verbal and written communication skills are also essential requirements. A Masters qualification is not required if you have a minimum 2:1 degree or can evidence alternative experience in a work or research-based project.
